X16 Headset Compatibility

The X16 digital telephones support industry standard headsets. XBLUE X16 telephones manufactured prior to mid 2014 have a 2.5mm headset jack on the left side of the unit.  XBLUE X16 telephones produced after mid 2014 have a 3.5mm jack on the left side.  When using a business grade headset with a standardized modular headset connector an adapter is required to facilitate the use of either a 2.5mm or 3.5mm connector.

To identify your X16 phone’s headset connector type as 2.5mm or 3.5mm, look at the label on the backside of the phone or on the telephone carton. Previous to July 2014 there was no indication of headset jack size since at that time there was only one size – 2.5mm.

On telephones produced with the 3.5mm headset jack the marking “3.5HJ” is on the telephone model/serial number label. Look to the right side of the label across from the model number.

If your telephone has this marking, it is a 3.5mm Headset Jack telephone. If it does not have this marking it is a 2.5mm Headset Jack telephone.

Operation:  The headset is activated by pressing the “Feature” Button on the X16 phone and then pressing the digit 9.  Feature Code 9 can also be programmed on a single button so the headset can be enabled and disabled by pressing the button. A headset must be plugged into the jack to enable or disable headset mode.  Sound quality is dependent on the headset you purchase.

Note About Lifters (Also known as handset lifters):  Lifters are sometimes sold by headset providers for use with wireless headsets. Hardware modification is required to use lifters with X16 phones.  This is due to the tab built into the phone’s headset cradle for wall mount applications.
